Our Story

The BMPP Giving Circle's start began in Minnesota in 2012.

Bo Thao-Urabe began conversations with Kaohly Her and Terri Thao about the disappointing data on philanthropic resources to Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities, but together the women enthusiatically talked about how they could bring their families together to galvanize financial support to enable leaders who wanted to solve community challenges. Together they invited eight families who co-founded the BMPP giving circle. Through shared values, a vision and mission, the group focuses on celebrating, learning about, and raising more money to fuel the change they wanted to see in the world. Because Minnesota is home to this multi-generational family-based giving circle, BMPP made their first grants in 2013.

What an incredible privilege it is that our family can give and have this kind of impact for our communities. We are a community of philanthropists who have given much of our time and energy in the past, but this giving circle allows us to also practice financially giving together to build beyond our immediate families.

We give because we know it makes a difference. Not only is our community better, but our family bond also improves through philanthropic giving.
